The situation
of the trade of fishery products in Latin American and
the Caribbean

This document was presented by INFOPESCA at the workshop
on the trade of fishery products in Latin America and
the Caribbean, held in Montevideo in June, 1999. Its objective
was to contribute with some reflections about the development
of the fish commercialization sector, along the last years
in the region, serving as a workshop discussion basis.
A survey on the fish market in the city of San Luis

The province of San Luis is situated in the west center
region of Argentina, far away from the maritime coast.
While the populations in the big cities continue to grow
along with the consumption level. This study shows that
the smaller hinterland towns of our countries are also
potential markets which could be developed.
Hong Kong : recent trends in the seafood trade

Hong Kong (SAR), long regarded as an important seafood
trading centre in the region, importing and re-exporting
fishery products, is of late importing more for local
consumption. Nevertheless, it is expected to remain an
important trading centre especially as a distribution
centre to enter the huge Chinese market.
Analyzing HACCP again

The auditory of the HACCP system in the fishery products
industry, has allowed to identify the problems in its
practical application. An appreciable part of the industry
problems are not the result of a lack of interest and/or
inversions, but a consequence of conceptual and proceeding
issues.
Artisanal production of dried-salted fish in Uruguay

Managing of the white spot disease in shrimp

A new disease associated so far with South East Asia,
has come to Latin America, becoming a new scourge for
the shrimp aquaculture industry. The occurrence of white
spot disease in shrimp culture seems to be increasing
every year. The establishment of effective precautionary
measures is urgently needed. This article reviews various
methods advocated to prevent its occurrence.
