APICD- "Dolphin safe" tuna certification: a guarantee for responsible fishing
In order to protect its tuna fishery, Mexico is adopting a labelling system that can only be applied on tuna which has been caught and processed under an on-board monitoring and verification method. This system does not pursue profit, instead aims at assuring the consumer that the product has been harvested under strict sustainabilty rules.

A modern system has the ability of producing maps, which show the different physical variables in a selected area. With this system, decissions can be more easily taken when assesing the feasibility of certain aquaculture activities. Market variables can also be included, which allows a complete and global information.
Selling shrimp to the US- a restaurant industry perspective

According to the National Restaurant Association (NRA), changes in demography and in the consumption patterns in the USA, have favoured the most to restaurants offering a full service. Seafood have shown a major growth in this business sector, and shrimp in particular, is by far the most preferred product. The author is a long-experienced man in the US shrimp market. While this information was initially directed to Asian producers, it will undoubtely be of most interest for Latin American exporters.

While the protein hydrolized is very ancient technology, the up-to-date knowledge on microbiology will help to improve it. As a part of his research, the author reported the succesful development of a fermentation in solid substratum, using sardine as raw material.

Every day more homes integrate mascots and inside these the ornamental fish are not an exception. The close coexistence of people with these animals makes necessary an analysis of the risks of possible zoonosis to recommend measures of hygiene and adapted prevention. The article refers to zoonosis caused by bacteria. The main bacterial diseases are described, with details regarding their sympthoms, ways of transmission and prevention methods.

This chapter focuses on the River Plate and more specifically in croaker, the main commercial fishery resource in this important fishing ground.
